Frequently Asked Questions

What is a UK degree classification?
UK universities classify undergraduate degrees into four main categories: First-Class (70%+), Upper Second-Class 2:1 (60-69%), Lower Second-Class 2:2 (50-59%), and Third-Class (40-49%). Below 40% is typically a fail. Some universities also distinguish between First and Distinction.
How is the weighted average calculated?
Each module mark is multiplied by its credit value. The sum of all weighted marks is then divided by the total credits. This ensures that higher-credit modules (like dissertations) contribute more to your final classification than lower-credit modules.
Do all modules count equally?
No. Modules with higher credit values have a greater impact on your classification. For example, a 40-credit dissertation counts twice as much as a 20-credit module. Our calculator accounts for this automatically.
Is this calculator accurate?
Our calculator uses standard UK weighting methods. However, each university may have specific rules about which modules count, how much final-year marks are weighted, and other factors. Always check with your university for their specific classification rules.
